Arrive Seoul

Welcome to South Korea. Upon arrival at Incheon International Airport, transfer to your hotel in the heart of Seoul. This culture trip will take you exploring South Korea’s ancient treasures and trendiest cities from the bright lights of Seoul, through the ancient capital of Gyeongju, coastal metropolis of Busan, and all the way to the volcanic island of Jeju.

Note: You may be required to depart one day before, subject to flights.

Accommodation: Hotel Kukdo Seoul or similar

Gyeongju (B, L)

Embark on a trip to Gyeongju, the ancient capital referred to as the “museum without walls” and “Florence of Korea”, for a glimpse into South Korea’s fascinating history. The Seokguram Grotto, a stone cave enshrining a masterpiece Buddhist statue within the Bulguksa Temple complex overlooking the East Sea, is the only fully intact national treasure from the Silla era. Tumuli Park is home to a complex of magnificent tombs, which from the outside resemble grassy hillocks that echo the mountains outside town. Constructed in the 7th century, Cheomseongdae is the oldest surviving astronomical observatory in Asia and possibly the world.

Accommodation: Commodore Hotel Gyeongju or similar

Busan, Fly to Jeju Island (B, L)

Set off to the boisterous port city of Busan, South Korea’s second largest city, boasting stunning landscapes of mountains and beaches, and brimming with hot springs and seafood. Begin the day like a local with an authentic market experience visiting the maze-like Jagalchi Fish Market and Gukje Market, packed with all types of goods you can ever think of. Discover Busan Tower Observatory, the eye-catching jewel of Busan, sitting atop the famous Yongdu (“dragon head”) Mountain peak in the city centre. Explore Haeundae Beach for beautiful views of Busan’s unique urban landscape, located in the eponymous district of Haeundae, host to the Busan International Film Festival and 2009 disaster film, Tidal Wave. Check out nearby Dongbaek Island, an island-turned-peninsula, named after camellia trees. The day concludes with a flight and transfer to South Korea’s resort Island, Jeju.

Accommodation: Ocean Suites Jeju Hotel or similar

Jeju Island (B, L)

Acclaimed as 7 New Wonders of Nature, Jeju island offers pristine beaches, waterfalls, volcanic cones, lava tube caves and many jaw-dropping natural wonders that are absolutely bucket list-worthy. Visit Manjang Cave, an entrance to the world’s longest system of underground lava tube caves, with swirling walls that resemble the lair of a giant serpent. At Sunrise Peak, a volcanic cone crater famous for spectacular sunrises, watch a cultural performance of the Haenyeo – women divers or ‘sea mermaids’ that free-dive 10m under the sea to collect seafood without oxygen masks. The Seongeup Folk Village preserves the heritage of the people of old Jeju, featuring homes built of thatch and lava rock, with iconic stone statues.

Accommodation: Ocean Suites Jeju Hotel or similar

Jeju Island, Fly to Seoul (B, L)

Begin the day at Mysterious Road, a gravity-defying optical illusion in which the surroundings trick the eye, making the road look like it is tilted in the opposite direction. The beloved Teddy Bear Museum is home to the world’s rarest and most expensive teddy bears. At Jusangjeolli Cliff, catch views of South Korea’s largest lava rock formation that resembles stone stairs, a true mystery of nature. At Cheonjiyeon Falls, white water falls from the heavens causing a thunderous sound, giving rise to its name meaning “sky connected with land”. Gain an appreciation of Korean tea traditions at Osulloc Tea Museum. Conclude your Jeju Island adventure with a flight to Seoul.

Accommodation: Hotel Kukdo Seoul or similar

DMZ (B, L)

Head out to the Demilitarised Zone (DMZ), a 4km wide, 240km long buffer separating North and South Korea. Lined on both sides by tank traps, electric fences, landmines and armies, it is ironically a must-visit tourist attraction, with several observation points allowing you to peek into North Korea. In Oppa Gangnam Style, stroll the streets of Garosugil in the Gangnam District, a fashionable neighbourhood lined with designer stores, coffee shops and ginkgo trees. Conclude the day shopping at COEX Mall, Asia’s largest underground shopping mall.

Accommodation: Hotel Kukdo Seoul or similar

Seoul (B, L)

Visit immense Gyeongbokgung Palace for a rendition of the Palace Royal Guard Changing Ceremony, a procedure that took place during the Joseon dynasty. Step back in time wandering the atmospheric streets of Ansadong Alley, taking in the sights and smells of traditional Korean culture, food and arts. Explore the traditional houses of Namsangol Hanok Village, followed by the observatory at N Seoul Tower which offers an unobstructed view of Seoul city, an all-time favourite attraction.

Accommodation: Hotel Kukdo Seoul or similar

Seoul Free Day (B)

Enjoy a free day to navigate the labyrinth of bright lights, cacophonous sounds and enticing aromas of sprawling Seoul at your own pace.
