Kick off your expedition on the Isle of Arran. Known as ‘Scotland in miniature’, this island is characterised by its highland peaks in the north and lush lowlands in the south. Choose to a hike with views of Goat Fell mountain and see if you can spot Scotland’s ‘Big Five’: golden eagles, red deer, red squirrels, otters and harbour seals.
Whisky and nature are waiting for you on Islay. The southernmost island of the Inner Hebrides, explore its rugged uplands and coastline, keeping an eye out for the 200-plus bird species that call Islay home. Of course, no trip to Islay is complete without a dram from one of the island’s famous and historic whisky producers.
Today, explore Gigha, a tiny, community-owned island in the Hebrides, bought by its 163 residents in 2002. Best explored on foot or via bike, visit the woodland gardens of Achamore House, before wandering the white sandy coves and turquoise waters along the coast.
Dock in the colourful fishing port of Tobermory on the Isle of Mull. Here, you can learn about local heritage at the Mull Museum, try a dram of local whiskey, stroll around the loch in Aros Park or marvel at the views across the Ardnamurchan Peninsula on a walk along the wooded coastal path. Mull is also a magnet for birders, with the highest breeding density of golden eagles in Europe.
Today, explore the Outer Hebrides and, depending on the conditions, attempt a landing at one of the many tiny islands. You may visit a remote community and learn about the local way of life, or head to a pristine beach for a nature landing or hike. You may also go out in a smaller boat for some coastal cruising in search of wildlife, such as puffins, guillemots, kittiwakes and seals.
Home of the famous Harris Tweed cloth, spend your time in Stornoway visiting the Gothic-style Lews Castle and ‘Scotland’s Stonehenge’, the 5000-year-old Callanish Standing Stones. Later, cruise the wild and beautiful Shiant Isles, one of the most important breeding colonies for seabirds in Europe.
Today, explore the dramatic scenery of Loch Scavaig on the Isle of Skye with your Expedition Team. Later, sail to the remote isle of Eigg, renowned for its wildlife. Keep an eye out for golden and white-tailed eagles, red throated divers, stonechats, seals, dolphins and porpoises.
Your adventure continues in Iona, where you can visit the restored 6th century abbey, one of Scotland’s most sacred Christian pilgrimage sites. A paradise for birdwatchers, keep your eyes peeled for choughs, red northern divers, eagles, fulmars, guillemots, razorbills, kittiwakes and shags.
