Arrive Nairobi, Kenya

On arrival at Nairobi International Airport you will be meet a guide on arrival with a transfer to your hotel in Nairobi, located opposite Nairobi National Park. Situated along the Nairobi River in beautiful Kenya, the capital of Nairobi is East Africa’s most cosmopolitan city and starting point for your African safari.

 
Nairobi - Daphne Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage & Giraffe Centre (B)

Start the day with a visit to the elephant orphanage where baby elephants and occasionally rhinos can be seen at feeding time. After viewing proceed to the Giraffe Centre where a specially designed observation platform offers you the opportunity to feed the full-grown giraffe from your hands.

After a hearty lunch, visit the Karen Blixen Museum: a chance to go back in time and discover the famous Karen Blixen’s house exactly as it was when she lived in Kenya. The house and grounds were made famous by the film ‘Out of Africa. Finish with a visit to an artisan workshop where the beads for necklaces and bracelets as well as other pottery are created.

 
Amboseli National Park (B,L,D)

Located in the southern reaches of Kenya, the Amboseli National Park is one of the best places to see elephants with a majestic back drop of snow-capped mountains of Mount Kilimanjaro. This morning depart Nairobi and arrive at your lodge in time for lunch. After lunch, time for a siesta or a swim in the pool before an afternoon game viewing drive and incredible sunset this evening. Return back to the lodge for dinner and a chance to share the days’ highlights.

 
Amboseli National Park (B,L,D)

Start with an early wake-up call so you can head out on an early morning game drive to catch the animals at their most active before the heat of the day sets in. Return to the lodge for breakfast.  Time to relax or join some of the optional tours available from the lodge, such as the Amboseli Research Centre, the longest study of wild elephants in the world or visit a Masaii village ( extra cost). Another game viewing opportunity this afternoon is available.

 
Navaisha, (B,L,D)

Located in the beautiful Kenya Rift Valley basin continue to Lake Naivasha, for its abundance of vibrants bird life, zebra and hippo pods.

Arrive in time for lunch.  Continue with afternoon boat ride on the lake where you get close to cormorants drying their wings, pink backed pelicans, herons, colourful kingfishers and fish eagles. Proceed to Crescent Island Game Sanctuary. It is a park where you walk with animals and it is also home to maasai giraffe, diks diks, zebra, impala and gazelle.  For the next two nights stay at Elsamere Lodge, the home of conservationists Joy and George Adamson and where Joy nurtured some of her orphaned big cats. It has since been converted into a conservation centre and lodge.

 
Navaisha (B,L,D)

Activities focus on the history and legacy of the Adamsons and their beloved lions. Visit the museum dedicated to their life story, enjoy the excellent birdwatching and spot hippo, buffalo and other smaller species. The on-site conservation centre is open to guests interested in community environmental lessons and Elsamere’s conservation strategies.  Boat rides are available or an optional day visit can be made to Hell’s Gate National Park, the volcanic Crater Lake and Mount Longonot National Park for hiking, game viewing, rock climbing, cycling and nature guided walks (extra cost).

 
Navaisha, Lake Nakuru (B,L,D)

After breakfast with picnic lunch boxes you drive to Lake Nakuru National Park.

Spend the day in the park with game viewing drives along the shores of the lake.  Lake Nakuru National Park is a world heritage site renowned for its amazing birdlife, with over 450 bird species. The waters of the lake also draw a great variety of game to its shores . Return to Elsamere Lodge for our last night at the lodge for dinner and toasting to the day’s adventures.

 
Masi Mara National Reserve (B,L,D)

The Masai Mara National Reserve is one of  Africa’s most famous wildlife parks. The image of acacia trees dotting endless grass plains epitomises Africa for many, then add a Maasai warrior and some cattle to the picture and the conversation need go no further.

Leave after breakfast and arrive at your lodge in time for lunch. Spend the rest of the afternoon relaxing in your room waiting for late evening when the temperature cools to head out on your first game viewing drive in Maasai Mara Reserve.

 
Masi Mara National Reserve (B,L,D)

Day spent enjoying game viewing in the Reserve. You may like to to take hot air balloon safaris over the Masai Mara which can be arranged, as well as visits to a local Maasai manyatta (village)  guided walking safaris, sundowners& bush dinners.  These optional activities are an additional cost.

 
Masi Mara National Reserve (B,L,D)

Enjoying game viewing in the Reserve or include an optional actitivity on offer (extra cost). Head out into the reserve for a chance to tick off some more animals on your “must see” list. Keep your eyes peeled as you hunt for the last members on your list.

 
Nairobi (B,L)

This morning we leave for Nairobi (approx 5 hrs drive) and stop for lunch in the city before heading to the airport, the end to our Africa safari!

Accommodation

Accommodation names referenced are to be used as an indicative guide for the standard of hotel/lodge to expect on your safari. Actual accommodation names may differ and will be confirmed on your final documentation. All hotel ratings are local or self-ratings provided by the supplier. All rooms are lead-in category or run of house unless otherwise specified. The standard check-in time is after 3pm and check-out is before 10am actual times may vary.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Exclusions

Meals not stated, drinks on meals, optional programs, visas (if required), travel insurance (strongly recommended), tipping, laundry, personal expenses and anything not explicitly specified are at your own expense.

Payment

A first deposit from $499 per person is required to secure your booking. A second deposit for flights is due 12 months before departure – the amount to be advised at the time of booking. The final balance will be due 5 months before departure. Full payment is due at the time of booking for departures within 5 months.

Fitness

A moderate level of fitness is required to move about unassisted, including getting on and off 4WD vehicles and other forms of transportation, walking up and down flights of stairs, and navigating occasional uneven or steep terrain. Travelling on unsealed roads in 4WD’s can be bumpy and dusty.  You will be required to carry your own bags to and from hotels, and terminals. This trip is not suitable for travellers requiring wheelchair, mobility scooters or facilities for disabled guests. Other walking aids may be permitted if you are able move about unassisted at the required pace. For advice on whether this trip is suitable for you, you are required to disclose physical ailments at the time of booking.

Pace

The pace of this tour is leisurely. The tour include 2 night and 3 nights stays to maximise wildlife and sighteeing opportunities but involves early morning and late afternoon games drives.Travelling between each park is around 3 to 5 hours with stops. At the game parks there are opportunities  for morning or afternoon siestas to allow some down time or alternatively, you have the flexibility to explore further and book optional tours (at your own expense). Game viewing is at your discretion, you do not have to go on every game drive.

Solo Occupancy

A single supplement from $1300 per person is payable in addition to the twin share price for solo occupancy.

Triple Share

Triple share is not available.

Extra Accommodation

Pre or post tour accommodation in the same tour hotel located in Nairobi or similar area, can be added for an additional cost, subject to availability.

Child

This tour is best enjoyed by adult travellers and is not suitable for children under 12 years of age. Children 12 years and above are subject to the adult price and must be accompanied by an adult.

Price

Surcharges may apply for select travel periods and departure cities. Prices are correct at time of publication and are subject to availability, change, cancellation or withdrawal without notice. All prices are in Australian dollars per person twin share unless stated otherwise.

Amendment

Each amendment is subject to a non-refundable fee from $75 per person. Additional fees and fare differences from third-party suppliers including air, tour, cruise and accommodation providers may apply.

Cancellation

Cancellation at any time is subject to a non-refundable fee from $550 per person. Additional fees and fare differences from third-party suppliers including air, tour, cruise and accommodation providers may apply.

Deviation

Any request to deviate from the original dates or routing, including early arrival and stay behind, is subject to a flight deviation fee from $150 per person plus applicable airfare and tax difference. Packaged tour extensions are not subject to the deviation fee (applicable airfare and tax difference may still apply) if booked according to the original advertised dates and routing.

Passport

For international travel, each customer must provide a copy of the passport photo page at the time of booking. It is the responsibility of the customer to ensure all names are full names exactly matched to the passport with six months validity beyond trip completion. The customer is liable for all fees due to incorrect names, invalid passport information and expired passports.

Visa

A visa is required for Australian passport holders when travelling to Kenya for a holiday.  The current price is $51 USD for a single entry visa but is subject to change at short notice. Find more information: http://evisa.go.ke/evisa-types.html

Make sure you allow 3 weeks prior to departure for processing your visa to allow for consulate hours and delays.

Visa requirements for each origin and destination country are the responsibility of the customer to check and obtain (if required) with the local consulate or embassy. The customer is liable for all visa application costs and fees due to the failure to obtain the required travel documents. Passengers who are not Australian citizens must check with the respective consulate or visa agency to determine what their visa requirements are and what personal identification is required.

Health

It is the responsibility of the customer to check and comply with the health, vaccination, COVID-19 and immigration requirements of each origin and destination country, and health requirements imposed by air, tour, cruise and accommodation providers. Comprehensive travel insurance is strongly recommended. For Kenya you must have a valid COVID-19 vaccination certificate with a QR code. Refer to smart traveller for details.

Yellow Fever
A valid international certificate of vaccination against Yellow Fever is required in many countries. You may need to present this on arrival at the airport or border crossing. Some countries will refuse entry if you are unable to present your certificate. It is your responsibility to check with your doctor well in advance of leaving home about the Yellow Fever requirements for the countries you’ll be visiting.

Baggage

Each person is entitled to a strict maximum of one soft bag not exceeding 15kg which will go in the 4WD vehicles with limited room for luggage.  Excess baggage is not permitted. You are strongly encouraged to pack lightly. A light day bag or backpack is permitted in the 4WD including your camera. Porterage is not included in the lodges/camps. Luggage and personal effects are your own risk and we hold no liability for lost or damaged belongings.

Meals

Please notify us at the time of booking of any special dietary requirements and allergies. We will pass on your requirements but cannot guarantee that they can be met as certain choices may be limited or not catered for. You are encouraged to reconfirm requirements with your tour leader whilst on tour.

Tipping

Tipping for guides and drivers is discretionary and recommended as a gesture of appreciation for the service provided. It is customary to tip the at the end of the tour. Gratuities (tips) are not included in the tour price The recommended tip is $10USD per person per day for the guide as your driver.

Flights

The outbound flight may depart one day prior to day 1 in Nairobi shown on the itinerary.  When departing Nairobi you may arrive one day after the final day shown on the itinerary. Flights are booked approximately 8 to 10 months prior to departure. The flights included in your package are based on a specific predetermined airfare allowance. Should there be a significant increase in airfares, fuel levies, taxes or government fees at the time of booking flights, then an airfare supplement may be imposed. The flights team will discuss options with you prior to ticketing, should this situation arise. Flights may not operate daily or directly to your destination. No show of any flight sectors will result in the automatic cancellation of all onward flights by the airline.

Fuel

In the unlikely event of a significant increase in fuel costs levied by third-party air, land and cruise transportation operators before travel, a fuel supplement may be passed on to the customer.

Transfers

Transfers are included on the first and last day of the tour. If you book extra nights at the start or end of your trip, the transfers are not included and an additional cost.

Group Size

This holiday will proceed with a minimum of 6 pax.  If the trip does not operate, you will be offered a credit. Optional programs may require minimum numbers to operate.

Optional Tours

Optional tours must be booked directly with the guide and paid in USD.

Itinerary

The operating schedule and itinerary may be impacted without notice by adverse weather, seasonal factors, closures, local conditions, COVID-19 or other factors beyond our control including force majeure. If attractions are not available due to reasons beyond our control such as closures or adverse weather, alternatives will be provided where possible. The itinerary and its order, sightseeing and transportation may be adjusted as deemed appropriate by the operator for optimum safety, enjoyment and operation. Any reference to ‘optional’, ‘not included’ or ‘exclusions/excluded’ means at your own expense.

Breakaway

Customers must remain with the tour group at all times and must not leave the tour unless written approval is provided before departure.

Documentation

Final documentation will be emailed within two weeks of departure. For packages consisting of multiple tours or countries, documentation will be emailed individually within two weeks of departure of each respective tour.

Travel Insurance

Travel insurance is not included and is strongly recommended. Ask our holiday experts for great coverage options.

Force Majeure

Force majeure means any natural disaster, accident, fire, act of God, act of war, terrorism, legally binding judgment, injunction, action of a court or other relevant authority, emergency, unplanned repairs, maintenance, strike, industrial dispute, work ban, blockade or picketing, travel ban, pandemic, epidemic or outbreak of infectious disease, or other event beyond our reasonable direct or indirect control. In case of force majeure or other extraordinary event that prevents safe travel, the supplier reserves the right to adjust, postpone or cancel the trip.
