Arrive Lima, Peru

Welcome to the capital of Peru, known particularly for its excellent cuisine ,museums, as well as the historic down-town areas. On arrival in Lima today you will be met by a guide and driven to your hotel in the popular Miraflores district.

 
Lima (B)

This morning we explore Lima’s creative hub on a walking tour. Visit artists’ workshops, handicraft shops, and enjoy some of the best street art next to spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean and Lima Bay. Among beautiful historic architecture, you will learn about the history of the city,  as well as buzzing cafes and restaurants. Take a stroll along the “malecon” and the famous “Bridge of Sighs”; visit the Barranco Main Square and hidden spots that only locals know

This afternoon explore further on a historic city tour including the San Francisco monastery with its maze of tunnels and catacombs.

 
Lima to Amazon Lodge (B,L,D)

Fly to Puerto Maldonado, the gateway to the Southern Amazon, where you’ll take a canoe ride on the Madres De Dois River to the lodge located near the Tambopato National Reserve. Spend the next two days exploring the pristine and  incredibly biodiverse regions deep in the rainforest as you search for wildlife while also learning about the unique plants & amazon culture. This afternoon take your first walk along the nature trails followed by a twilight river boat ride this evening.

 
Amazon Lodge (B,L,D)

An early morning trek to Lake Sandoval and dug out canoe ride takes us to Oxbow Lake. Once there paddle around the lake in in search of the resident family giant river otters and other lakeside residents such as caiman, macaws and horned screamers. This afternoon climb the towers and cross the seven hanging bridges that connect the treetops for spectacular birds eyes views over the rainforest. Your chance to see toucans, squirrel monkeys and the three toed sloth.  This evening an adventure awaits with a night hike.

 
Amazon Lodge to Sacred Valley (B)

Return to Puerto Maldonado airport for your flight to Cuzco and continue to the Sacred Valley, one of the most beautiful and historically important parts of Peru. Several of the Inca’s finest works were built in this region. Explore the fortress town of Ollantaytambo and visit a local home and see how families have lived for generations in the Sacred Valley.

 
Sacred Valley (B)

Today is a free day to  explore the historic towns and traditional cultures around the Urumbra River and the stunning Andean views in the Sacred Valley.  You may decide to visit the ancient Inca terraces at Moray and the salt terraces at Maras, visit the markets and see ancient weavers of Chincheros or create your own ceramics in a workshop class (optional tours extra cost).

 
Train to Machu Picchu (B,D)

Sit back and take in the views as you travel on by train to the magnificent ancient Incan citadel of Machu Picchu in modern comfort. The train has wide glass windows built into the roof and sides of the carriages so you to see the rich Peruvian countryside rushing by.  Arrive at Agua Calientes, a small town and continue the ascent by coach to the lost city of  Machu Picchu.  Our guide will bring it to life, detailing the history and mysteries around the ancient Incan ruins.  Return for lunch in town, and stay overnight in Agua Calientes.

 
Cuzco (B)

Return to Ollantaytambo train station and coach to Cuzco, a UNESCO world heritage listed site and former Inca capital city.  For the next three days explore the rich history and discover the spanish colonial builings, main square and Incan wall ruins.  This vibirant city is full of museums, walking tours, churches, shops, and restaurants.

 
Cuzco (B)

Start your tour in the Plaza del Armas (main square) and visit the cathedral, and make your way through the small alleyways edged with Incan walls to the Koricancha, the temple dedicated to the sun. Stop at San Pedro market and take in the lively bustle of the workers and the colorful stands of fruit, vegetables and spices. End at Sacsayhuaman, and see the gigantic rocks that that were used to build the site and admire how they fit perfectly together.  This evening you have the option for dinner with a folkloric show to enjoy the best Peruvian dancers.

 
Cuzco (B)

Full day to explore on your own and discover the region with the optional activities on offer.  This may include hiking in the Andean Mountains to Humantay Lagoons, visiting Rainbow Mountain with its vibrant colours or learn about the cocoa plant at the chocolate museum and make your own chocolate.  Optional activities – extra cost and listed below.

 
Cuzco to Puno (B,L)

Today we follow the route of the sun as we travel by coach from Cuzco to Puno. This is a full day trip with stops on the way, visiting a 17th century chuch, the Raqchi ruins -also known as The Temple of God Wiracocha and colonial town of Pucara. On the way, stop at La Raya the highest mountain pass at 4352m for a photo stop to admire the seeeping views of the  Andean landscape.  Lunch is included at a local restaurant.  At the end of the day arrive in Puno, on the shores of Lake Titicaca.

 
Lake Titicaca - Uros & Tacquile Island (B,L)

The shimmering calm blue water of Lake Titicaca, it’s easy to see why this became a sacred place for the local people. On a full day tour visit the man-made floating islands of Uros and their inhabitants,  admire the colourful handicrafts made by the islanders and enjoy at typical Peruvian lunch on Tacquile Island. Explore the area by boat, tricycle and on foot.

 
Finish tour at Puno airport (B)

Transfer from your hotel in Puno to Juliaca airport for your connecting flights home to Australia.

Exclusions

Meals not stated, drinks on meals, optional programs, visas (if required), travel insurance (strongly recommended), tipping, personal expenses and anything not explicitly specified are at your own expense.

Payment

A first deposit from $499 per person is required to secure your booking. A second deposit for flights is due 12 months before departure. The final balance will be due 5 months before departure. Full payment is due at the time of booking for departures within 5 months.

Fitness

A moderate level of fitness is required. You are required to move about unassisted, on and off vehicles, boats and other forms of transportation, walking up and down stairs, and navigating uneven or sometimes steep terrain at the Inca Ruins. At the Amazon Lodge their are nature walks & hikes and reaching the canopy walkway requires walking up alot of stairs. You will be required to carry your own bags to and from hotels, stations and terminals. This trip is not suitable for travellers requiring wheelchair, mobility scooters or facilities for disabled guests. Other walking aids may be permitted if you are able move about unassisted at the required pace. For advice on whether this trip is suitable for you, you are required to disclose physical ailments at the time of booking.

Pace

The pace of this tour is easy to moderate and we usually spend two nights in each place . We slowly increase our altitude in the Andean mountains starting in Sacred Valley and finishing in Puno .  Scheduled free days allow some downtime, or alternatively, you have the flexibility to explore further and book optional tours (at your own expense on tour).

Solo Occupancy

A single supplement from $1500 per person is payable in addition to the twin share price for solo occupancy.

Extra Nights in Lima

Pre or post tour accommodation for one or two people $220 including breakfast, in the same tour hotel located in Miraflores, Lima subject to availability. Transfers are not included and an additional cost for extending your stay or arriving early.

Child

This tour is best is not suitable for children under 12 years of age. Children 12 years and above are subject to the adult price and must be accompanied by an adult.

Price

Surcharges may apply for select travel periods and departure cities. Prices are correct at time of publication and are subject to availability, change, cancellation or withdrawal without notice. All prices are in Australian dollars per person twin share unless stated otherwise.

Amendment

Each amendment is subject to a non-refundable fee from $75 per person. Additional fees and fare differences from third-party suppliers including air, tour, cruise and accommodation providers may apply.

Cancellation

Cancellation at any time is subject to a non-refundable fee from $550 per person. Additional fees and fare differences from third-party suppliers including air, tour, cruise and accommodation providers may apply.

Deviation

Any request to deviate from the original dates or routing, including early arrival and stay behind, is subject to a flight deviation fee from $150 per person plus applicable airfare and tax difference. Packaged tour extensions are not subject to the deviation fee (applicable airfare and tax difference may still apply) if booked according to the original advertised dates and routing.

Passport

For international travel, each customer must provide a copy of the passport photo page at the time of booking. It is the responsibility of the customer to ensure all names are full names exactly matched to the passport with six months validity beyond trip completion. The customer is liable for all fees due to incorrect names, invalid passport information and expired passports.

Visa

Tourist Visas to Peru are not required in advance for Australian passport holders.

Visa requirements for each origin and destination country are the responsibility of the customer to check and obtain (if required) with the local consulate or embassy. The customer is liable for all visa application costs and fees due to the failure to obtain the required travel documents.

Health

It is the responsibility of the customer to check and comply with the health, vaccination of each origin and destination country, and health requirements imposed by air, tour, cruise and accommodation providers. Vaccinations, testing and quarantine costs are the expense of the customer. Comprehensive travel insurance is strongly recommended.

Yellow Fever vaccination is required in the Peruvian Amazon

Baggage

Bring only necessary clothing & equipment when staying at Agua Calientes near Machu Picchu and the Amazon lodge stay.

Amazon Lodge

10kg luggage limit for your 2 night stay due to weight and space limitations on the boat transfer to the lodge
Additional luggage will be kept in safe and secure storage at Puerto Maldonado

Train to Machu Picchu

5kg baggage limit for the  train to Machu Picchu – 1 bag or backpack for your one night stay in Agua Calientes
The train does not have storage for luggage.  Any luggage over 5kg cannot be taken aboard.
The rest of your luggage will be taken to your hotel in Cuzco, waiting for you on your return.

Flights & Coach travel

Each person is entitled to a strict maximum of one bag not exceeding 20kg on the coach tour. Domestic flights in South America have luggage restrictions of 15kg to 20kg.  Excess baggage is not permitted. You are strongly encouraged to pack lightly. A light day bag or backpack is permitted on the coach. Porterage is not included and you are required to carry your own bags. Luggage and personal effects are your own risk and we hold no liability for lost or damaged belongings.

Meals

Please notify us at the time of booking of any special dietary requirements and allergies. We will pass on your requirements but cannot guarantee that they can be met as certain choices may be limited or not catered for. You are encouraged to reconfirm requirements with your tour leader whilst on tour.

Tipping

Tipping is part of their culture and for guides and drivers is discretionary and recommended as a gesture of appreciation for the service provided. It is customary to tip the tour leader and driver at the end of the tour

Restaurants – 10% of the bill if not included
Guide/Leader and driver $10 USD per person per day.
Optional tours – $1 – $3 USD per person

Flights

The outbound flight may depart one day prior to day 1 shown on the itinerary. The inbound flight may arrive one day after the final day shown on the itinerary. Flights are booked approximately 10 months prior to departure. The flights included in your package are based on a specific predetermined airfare allowance. Should there be a significant increase in airfares, fuel levies, taxes or government fees at the time of booking flights, then an airfare supplement may be imposed. The flights team will discuss options with you prior to ticketing, should this situation arise. Flights may not operate daily or directly to your destination. No show of any flight sectors will result in the automatic cancellation of all onward flights by the airline.

Fuel

In the unlikely event of a significant increase in fuel costs levied by third-party air, land and cruise transportation operators before travel, a fuel supplement may be passed on to the customer.

Transfers

Transfers are included on the first and last day of the tour and may operate at designated times and may be group or independent services using private transportation.

Group Size

This holiday will proceed with a minimum 10 passengers . If the trip does not operate, you will be offered a credit. Optional programs may require minimum numbers to operate.

Itinerary

The operating schedule and itinerary may be impacted without notice by adverse weather, seasonal factors, closures, local conditions, COVID-19 or other factors beyond our control including force majeure. If attractions are not available due to reasons beyond our control such as closures or adverse weather, alternatives will be provided where possible. The itinerary and its order, sightseeing and transportation may be adjusted as deemed appropriate by the operator for optimum safety, enjoyment and operation. Any reference to ‘optional’, ‘not included’ or ‘exclusions/excluded’ means at your own expense.

Breakaway

Customers must remain with the tour group at all times and must not leave the tour unless written approval is provided before departure.

Documentation

Final documentation will be emailed within two weeks of departure. For packages consisting of multiple tours or countries, documentation will be emailed individually within two weeks of departure of each respective tour.

Travel Insurance

Travel insurance is not included and is strongly recommended. Ask our holiday experts for great coverage options.

Force Majeure

Force majeure means any natural disaster, accident, fire, act of God, act of war, terrorism, legally binding judgment, injunction, action of a court or other relevant authority, emergency, unplanned repairs, maintenance, strike, industrial dispute, work ban, blockade or picketing, travel ban, pandemic, epidemic or outbreak of infectious disease, or other event beyond our reasonable direct or indirect control. In case of force majeure or other extraordinary event that prevents safe travel, the supplier reserves the right to adjust, postpone or cancel the trip.
