Hong Kong - Guilin (Bullet Train)

After breakfast, bid farewell to your Hong Kong guide and meet your China tour guide. Board a high-speed bullet train and travel across the border into China. In just three hours, you’ll arrive in Guilin, a city celebrated for its breathtaking scenery and dramatic karst landscapes that tower above the serene Li River.

Begin your exploration at Elephant Trunk Hill Park, where you’ll capture an iconic photo of the riverside hill with its distinctive rock arch resembling an elephant drinking water from the Li River. The Optional tours stated above are unique experiences that can be added to your itinerary. These are payable directly to the Tour Leader in local currency (RMB) and cannot be pre-booked or prepaid. If a program or venue is unavailable, alternative options may be offered by the Tour Leader. Passengers who choose not to participate will be directed to a suitable location by the Tour Leader to wait until the optional program concludes.

Exclusions 

Tipping, meals not stated, beverages, optional tours, travel insurance (strongly recommended), visas (if required), personal expenses, and anything not explicitly specified are at your own expense.

Payment 

A deposit from $499 per person is required to secure your booking. A second deposit (partial payment) is due 10 months before departure, with the amount advised at the time of booking. The final balance is due 5 months before departure. Full payment is required at the time of booking for departures within 5 months.

Tipping 

The suggested local payment for this 10 Day tour is $120 AUD per person.  

Tipping is customary in Hong Kong, China, and Macau and is strongly recommended. This amount, based on $12 AUD per person per day, is used to support local tour guides and drivers. While tipping is not mandatory, it is a gesture of appreciation. As many tour guides in these regions consider tipping part of their income, please don’t feel intimidated if they approach you as they bid you farewell. The suggest tipping amount will be collected by the Tour Leader/Guide at the end of the tour.

Deviation 

Any request to change the original dates or routing, including early arrival or extended stay, is subject to a flight deviation fee from $150 per person, plus any applicable airfare and tax differences. Packaged tour extensions are not subject to the deviation fee if booked according to the original advertised dates and routing (airfare and tax differences may still apply).

Passport 

For international travel, each customer must provide a copy of the passport photo page at the time of booking. It is the customer’s responsibility to ensure that all names match exactly as they appear in the passport, with at least six months’ validity beyond the trip’s completion. The customer is liable for any fees arising from incorrect names, invalid passport information, or expired passports.

Visa 

NO visa is required for ordinary Australian passport holders entering Hong Kong, China and Macau for visits less than 30 days. Travellers do not need to complete any pre-departure documents; however, it is advised that you print a copy of your travel documents.

Health 

Customers must check and comply with health, vaccination, COVID-19, and immigration requirements for all countries, as well as those imposed by airlines, tour operators, cruises, and accommodations. Vaccinations, testing, and quarantine costs are the customer’s responsibility. Comprehensive travel insurance with COVID-19 coverage is strongly recommended.

Fitness 

A moderate level of fitness is required. You must be able to move about unassisted, including boarding and alighting vehicles, walking up and down stairs, and navigating uneven terrain. You will also need to carry your own baggage to and from hotels, terminals, and stations. This trip is not suitable for travellers requiring a wheelchair, mobility scooter, or facilities for disabled guests. Other walking aids may be permitted if you can move about unassisted at the required pace. For advice on whether this trip is suitable for you, please disclose any physical ailments at the time of booking.

International Flights

The outbound flight may depart one day before Day 1, and the return flight may arrive one day after the last day. Flights are booked 8 to 10 months before departure. Flights included in your package are based on Cathay Pacific or Singapore Airlines, with an airfare allowance. A supplement may apply if airfares, taxes, or fees increase. The flights team will discuss options if this occurs. Missed flight sectors may result in the cancellation of all onward flights.

Fuel 

In the unlikely event of a significant increase in fuel costs levied by third-party air, land and cruise transportation operators before travel, a fuel supplement may be passed on to the customer.

Baggage 

Each person is allowed one bag with a maximum weight of 20kg. Excess baggage is not permitted. Consider a small day bag for essentials. On high-speed trains, luggage is stored in designated racks and may not be accessible during travel. Porterage is not included, so you’ll need to carry your own bags. We are not liable for lost or damaged belongings.

Transfers 

Seat-in-coach airport transfers on group tour arrival and departure days are included.

Group Size

You will meet like-minded travellers on tour and may even make lifelong friends. This holiday will proceed with a minimum group size of 20 passengers and a maximum group size of approximately 40 passengers. If the tour does not operate due to minimum numbers, you will be offered a credit, alternative date or refund.

Train Transportation 

All train transportation featured in the itinerary is based on 2nd class seating. Due to factors outside our control, such as operational changes, last-minute track maintenance, or unfavourable weather conditions, train travel may be substituted with an economy flight to maintain the continuity of the itinerary while prioritising the safety of all passengers.

Meals 

Breakfast is usually buffet-style with limited vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and lactose-free options. For other meals, your tour guide will recommend nearby dining options. Inform us of any dietary requirements when booking; however, we cannot guarantee all requests will be met. Please confirm dietary needs with your tour guide during the tour.

Accommodation 

Accommodation is based on 4-star hotels (self-rated or locally rated in Hong Kong and China). Rooms will have either twin beds or a double bed. Bedding preferences can be requested but are not guaranteed. Non-smoking rooms will be requested, though smoking floors may be available. Hotel names are indicative and may change. Check-in is from 3 pm; check-out is by 10 am.

Shopping 

Hong Kong and China offer fantastic shopping opportunities, from bustling markets to large malls. Known for silk, jade, pearls, tea, and traditional Chinese medicine, your itinerary may include stops at English-speaking shops. Purchases are at your discretion, and you should never feel pressured to buy. If you need help with a language barrier, your tour guide can assist.

Money 

The currency in China is the Renminbi (RMB). In Hong Kong, the currency is the Hong Kong Dollar (HKD), while Macau uses the Macanese Pataca (MOP). ATMs are widely available in major Chinese cities, Hong Kong, and Macau, and they accept major credit cards, including at international hotels and restaurants. However, in some smaller cities in China or less touristy areas of Macau, the use of international cards may be limited, so having local currency on hand is recommended.

Itinerary 

The itinerary and schedule may be subject to changes without notice due to adverse weather, seasonal factors, closures, local conditions, COVID-19, or other factors beyond our control, including force majeure. If attractions are unavailable due to reasons beyond our control, such as closures or weather, alternatives will be provided where possible. The local operator or tour guide may adjust the itinerary, sightseeing, or transportation as necessary to ensure safety, enjoyment, and smooth operation. References to “optional,” “not included,” or “exclusions/excluded” refer to expenses that will be covered by you.

Breakaway 

Customers must remain with the tour group at all times and must not leave the tour unless written approval is provided before departure. If you leave the group from the scheduled itinerary to partake in your own sightseeing, this may result in the local supplier cancelling your onward travel services, including accommodation and transportation. This does not apply to days on the itinerary where free time is mentioned.

Documentation 

Final documentation will be emailed approximately 30 days prior to departure and will include flight e-tickets, important pre-departure information, and a final hotel list.

Force Majeure 

Force majeure refers to any natural disaster, accident, fire, act of God, act of war, terrorism, legally binding judgment, injunction, action by a court or other relevant authority, emergency, unplanned repairs, maintenance, strike, industrial dispute, work ban, blockade or picketing, travel ban, pandemic, epidemic, outbreak of infectious disease, or any other event beyond our reasonable direct or indirect control.
